Kings County Ireland Ex Officio Guardians , Free Genealogy Records
The following is a list of Ex Officio Guardians for King's County in 1889.
King's county, a county of Ireland, bounded N by E. and W. Meath, E by Kilkenny and Queen's county, S by Tipperary, and W by Galway; 43 . long and 39 broad, containing 707 square miles. More than 1/3 of the county is occupied by bogs and mountains; the soil of the arable lands is very fertile, and consists either of a deep moor, or a shallow gravely loam. Principal rivers, the Shannon, Little Brosna, and Greater Brosna.

The Parsonstown Poor Law Union was formally declared May 8,1839 and covered an area of 234 square miles. Its operation was overseen by an elected Board of Guardians. The Board also included ex-officio Guardians. The Guardians met each week on Saturday. In 1852, the southern part of the Parsonstown Union became part of the new Borrisokane Union. The population of the Parsonstown Poor Law Union in the 1831 census was 71,138 but by 1901 the population of the Union was only 25,332. The Parsonstown Union workhouse was about half a mile to the east of Parsonstown. The workhouse was opend in March 1842, and received its first admissions in April. It was able to accommodate about 800 inmates.
Kings County is now called Offaly County.
