Institution RecordsInstitution Records can be a fantastic source of information for genealogists. It is however sometimes hard to locate these valuable records or in some cases define what they are. For the purposes of this page I have confined the scope of the word Institution to governmental Institutions with a negative connotation. Prisons, Orphanages, Almshouse, Poorhouse, Mental Hospitals and Insane Asylums. In other words places that people often do not want to be. I have not included Church Records or things like Lodges, Clubs, Military Records or Census Records as these records are dealt with on other pages of this web site and are not of a negative nature. It should be noted that many of the Institutions that I refer to as government run were in ages past run by the church. Things like Schools, Orphanages and Hospitals. However I have elected to put them on this page. Find Institution Records.Almshouse & Poorhouse Records
