Funeral cards are an overlooked free genealogical resource. They often contain both the Birth date and Death date and can be used as a substitute for birth and death records ( Vital Records ). Now from a technical point of view they are not a true substitute for vital records. But it's a good place to start. If you interested in what things qualify as a true Vital Records there is a good article at the Olive Tree.
Unfortunately these valuable resources are scattered and there has not been a single repository for this valuable resource until now. It is my hope to create the best funeral card database on the net.
