I went and had a hunt for James Clark in the Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1907 and the Ontario, Canada Deaths, 1869-1932 on Ancestry.com. I found several individuals of interest as you can see below. There are many thousands of genealogy entries for the Clark surname. If you want to have a look at them I have a link to a FREE TRIAL at Ancestry.com at the bottom of this page.

Cheryl (Kemp) Taber has done a little bit more research on James Clark and his family.
Mary Etta Clark 1874~1910. Her
death register is attached. Her parents names (Henry Handy & Elizabeth Bell) are shown. Her birth register, shows her born 13 Sep 1873 in King Tp., York Co., & her marriage was in 1899 to Robert Clark(e) is attached (both were living in Tossorontio Tp., Simcoe Co. at the time).
Mary Etta Handy b. abt 1874 married - 8 Mar 1899 Robert Clarke born abt 1870 Simcoe
Robert was the son of Robert Clark(e) & Martha McGill.
Robert & Martha (McGill) Clarke were living in Tossorontio, Simcoe Co. in 1901:

Note: I wonder if their son, James, listed above, was the one whose coffin plate you have? His birth date, from the coffin plate, calculates to be March 14, 1873.
1873 would match James' year of birth per this 1881 Census:

As to Jane Stinson, I'm having a hard time pegging her down. She may have been Jane McDonald who married James Stinson. James & Jane were living in F1- Mulmur Tp., 115- Simcoe Co., pg. 7, in 1901 & were shown in Tossorontio, Simcoe Co, pg. 10 in 1911 (under Stenson). James died in 1914. But if this is the case, I don't know how Jane would relate to the Clark clan. The census records show Jane born about Oct. 15, 1841/2 in Ontario. James was born in Ireland.
James Clarks death register showed him living on Con. 5 Lot 11 Tossorontio Tp., Simcoe Co. I had suggested his parents were Robert Clark(e) & Martha McGill. Robert Clarke died on Sept. 7, 1903, in Tossorontio Tp. & his death register said Robert lived on Con. 5 Lot 11 as well.
Please see the attached
death registers for these two men & you will see they both lived on Con. 5 Lot 11.
I also suggested that Mary Etta Clark was the wife of Robert Clark(e) Jr. (another son of Robert Clark(e) & Martha McGill & the brother of James.

Coffin plates often contain birth and death dates, and sometimes the place of birth or the occupation of a deceased person.
While not technically a true vital record, coffin plates can be seen as a substitute for vital records or at the least a good clue. In the case of people who died before civil registration it might be one of the few written records genealogists will find in their hunt for that brick wall ancestor!
If you want to know more about what things qualify as a true Vital Records there is a good article at the Olive Tree.
Remember when searching for Coffin Plates on the net they are sometimes referred to as Coffin Plaques, Casket plates or Casket Plaques.
