Funeral cards are an overlooked free genealogical resource. They often contain both the Birth date and Death date and can be used as a substitute for birth and death records ( Vital Records ). Now from a technical point of view they are not a true substitute for vital records. But it's a good place to start. If you interested in what things qualify as a true Vital Records there is a good article at the Olive Tree. Unfortunately these valuable resources are scattered and there has not been a single repository for this valuable resource until now. It is my hope to create the best funeral card database on the net.

STATEMENT FOR BURIAL EXPENSES AT THE FLETCHER OHIO CEMETARY. IT IS DATED AUG. 24, 1909. GRAVE DIGGING WAS $4.50, TILE BRICK...$4.32, STONE GRAVE COVER...$7.50...ETC. THE TOTAL COST FOR BURIAL EXPENSES IN 1909 WAS $19.70. (Brown Township, Miami County Ohio)

Ancestors At Rest reminds you that when looking for death records for your family tree online to be careful when spelling interment. It's not intermet, internment, inturnment or internmet. Another common one is cemetery, not cemetary or cematary.
